It’s Important to Be Pissed Off

Because, says Tariq Ali, Afghanis are tired of dodging bullets from multiple sides, tired of Americans forgetting they’re at war, tired of being the platform for world powers’ ego battles.

Because, writes Matthew Paris of Times Online, the fog created by befuddling war acronyms and reality-obscuring terminology is confusing on purpose.

Because, as Afghani activist Malalai Joya will tell you in her book A Woman Among Warlords, the legitimacy of the Afghan government we’re helping to stand is an illusion, one built by media misrepresentation and government hoodwinkery.

Because, according to Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) magazine, op-eds in America’s mainstream publications and broadcasts are more likely to discuss how we’re going to barge ahead in this war, failing to reflect the question on so many minds: why are we doing this?

As I never tire of telling my audiences, no nation can donate liberation to another nation. These values must be fought for and won by the people themselves.

–Malalai Joya, A Woman Among Warlords
